Lecture Series Features Alert Diver Subject Paul Nicklen
In the Fall 2009 issue of Alert Diver, readers were treated to an inside look at the life of National Geographic photographer Paul Nicklen. Now fans of Nicklen’s work can learn even more of what he does through a series of lectures he’ll be presenting across the country as part of the National Geographic Live Speaker Series.
As a child raised in a small Inuit community on Baffin Island, Nicklen learned early to travel the polar ice and track its wildlife. A couple of decades and countless adventures later, Nicklen now takes his audience underwater to see stunning, close-up images of leopard seals, whales, walruses, polar bears and narwhals and over the ice to look at caribou and polar bird species. Attendees of the lecture are in for an evening exploring the beauty of the polar regions and the impact of climate change on their fragile ecosystems.
Divers Alert Network® is one of the Promotional Partners for the Nicklen lecture series. Tickets are now available, and a discount is being offered to DAN Members. The Nicklen series kicks off in Mesa, Ariz., on Dec. 2, 2009, with dates following in Chicago, Ill., Dallas, Texas, and Seattle, Wash.
For those unable to attend the event, you can still enjoy Nicklen’s work through his new book, Polar Obsession, now available at your local bookseller.
