Program Offers Opportunities in DAN Dive Medicine and Research
For those interested in participating in the 2010 DAN® Internship Program, only two weeks remain to submit your application for consideration. The deadline is Jan. 15, 2010.
For 10 years, Divers Alert Network® has encouraged young minds interested in the areas of dive medicine and research through the DAN Research Internship Program. DAN research internships have opened professional doors and career opportunities for the extraordinary young men and women who complete the program each year.
Selected interns will receive an initial week of training at DAN headquarters in May before placement at host facilities, including DAN, where they will remain in residence for a minimum of 2 to 2.5 months.
DAN strives to make the intern’s experience an enriching one by matching their skills and interests with appropriate placements. Interns may assist on a range of field, laboratory or epidemiological research studies, contribute to technical writing and/or public education initiatives, and/or be offered a range of additional opportunities. The program may qualify for academic credit from an intern's home institution.
Qualities for good DAN research interns include enthusiasm, strong communication skills, initiative, integrity, energy, intelligence, computer literacy, an interest in science and research and an established dedication to diving. While actual diving may not be required for a given placement, desirable candidates would be certified and experienced scuba divers. The minimum age for qualification is 20 years (by June 1, 2010) with an educational track in a science field preferred.
For additional information or to discuss application to the program, contact DAN Research at (919) 684-2948.
